What to do when you've changed your DNS and your site doesn't show up.
It can be a little scary for people when they venture into the uncomfortable world of changing their domain records, do their best to make the prescribed adjustments, click "Save" and then nothing happens.
That's ok. It's part of the process and there's always something to learn. You don't have to be an expert but you can know a few things that could be the case.
Here's what could be happening when your site is not showing up when you enter your domain.
1. Not enough time has passed.
Domain hosts take varying amounts of time to get your changes live. Some take effect within 15 minutes and some say 48 hours. This can be frustrating because you want to know if your changes have been done correctly. If you're not confident that things
2. You need to refresh the cache on your browser.
Our browsers likely have our old website preloaded. They do this to save us time when visiting our favourite websites. You don't want to sit there waiting for the same site to reload over and over. So our browsers remember and it makes website visiting much quicker.
The problem is that now you have changed where your website is hosted, your browser needs to catch up. It may still be going by memory and pointing you to the old site.
You can either clear your cache or reload the page. You can also open the "Incognito Mode" or "Private Viewing" setting on your browser and that will let you know if the site
3. The DNS records are entered incorrectly.
It could be that there is an error in where the records are pointing.
Check to make sure that the following are set:
- A record set to 174.138.115.14
- CNAME record set to cloud1.deploysites.co
If this part is confusing, we totally get it. You're best to call the Customer Support of your domain provider and ask them to make sure these are set up correctly and that there are no conflicts. For example, it's possible that you could have two A records set and it's confusing your browser on how to load up your page.
4. Primary Domain is not set up.
Once you have changed the settings in your domain, you need to go to "Settings" and then "Domain" where you can make your main domain the primary one instead of the staging site you received when you signed up.
If all this has been done, don't hesitate to call on our team. We are here to help.
